The best essays include a story you to tell in order for people to understand you.
A “background” central to your identity can include your religion or ethnicity, living in a foreign country, experiencing a challenging issue growing up, or a unique family situation.
Make sure the story you choose is one you haven’t told elsewhere in your application.
Admissions doesn’t really want to hear about your failure, rather, they want to know how you thought you failed, how it affected you, and what positive lessons you learned.
If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
Despite the significant changes to the essay prompts, Jim Montague, Program Director of Guidance and Support Service at Boston Latin School, said that he hasn’t changed the essay writing advice that he gives to his students.
